Aasamir

Aasimar
An angel looks at the new recruit and asks "how did you get here". The new angel looks at him and says "oh you know... I flu". Don't worry that's as bad as it gets (hopefully) for today. The Aasimar are basically the weakest of the angels in this universe. With that being said that doesn't mean that aasimar are even remotely weak. It just means they don't roll the 4-9d6 die of holy damage with every hit.

    Race: Aasimar
    Stat Bonus: +2 Charisma/ +1 Consitution or +1 wisdom or +1 Strength
    Age: up to 160 year
    Size: Similar to humans
    Speed: 30ft
  •  Swag:
  •  Celestial Resistance: Resistance to Necrotic/ Radiant damage
  •  Healing Hands: You can heal a number of hit points equal to your level. You cannot use this again until you finish a long rest
  •  Light Bearer: You know the light cantrip and can cast it at will
  •  Languages: Common and celestial

Subraces: Protector Aasimar, Scourge Aasimar, Fallen Aasimar

  • Protector Aasimar
    +1 Wisdom stat bonus
Radiant Soul: As an action, you may transform for 1 minute. Wings sprout from your back and you gain a flying speed similar to your walking speed. You also cause radiant damage equal to your level with your first attack of each turn. This cannot be done again until you complete a long rest
Suggestion: I'm not sure what the most useful combination here would be but I can tell you flying comes in handy no matter whoever or whatever you are. I do like the idea of a paladin though, Only because the thought of a heavily armored wasp scares the hell out of me. Also, you could stack divine smite and you're radiant damage to turn yourself into an ICBM of justice. Dropping out of the air quickly and nuking everyone dumb enough to try and stand ground.

  •    Scourge Aasimar
    +1 Constitution Stat Bonus

Radiant Consumption: As an action, your body goes full lighthouse mode. I'm talking Gandalf on the third day coming from the mountains, Liz from Hellboy getting slapped and burning everything around her to the ground, and for anyone who plays league of legends, it's a Sunfire Cape. Once per long rest every creature within 10 feet of you takes radiant damage equal to half of your level. In addition once per turn you may add radiant damage (equal to your level) to your first successful attack. This of course only lasts for 1 minute as well.
Suggestion: Berserker Barbarian / Moon Circle Druid. Be a big meaty flesh tank and soak up all that damage, and while doing so you might as well dish out some aura damage to everything within 10 feet of you. As for the druid, this may just be my love of classic rock but I would love to turn into a giant Bengal tiger that burns everything in holy fire and dishes out additional radiant damage. Now if there was only a way to get lightning involved (which there are ways to do such but we haven't reached that part yet).

  •     Fallen aasimar
     +1 Strength Stat Bonus
Necrotic Shroud: You one scary mofo. Once per long rest, you may take an action and for 1 minute amplify that inner emo psycho and sprout ghostly white wings to adorn your back, perfectly matching your new black pupil-less eyes.

Naturally, any enemy who can watch this transformation take place must make a Charisma saving throw or soil themselves and run away.  The DC to this effect would be (8 + Proficiency mod + Charisma Mod). You may also necrotic damage (equal to your level) to the first successful attack of each round.
Suggestion: Warlock / Battle Master fighter. I like the idea of a warlock for mainly roleplaying options. It just seems to fit thematically, it explains how you fell from grace and helps your character look and feel more realistic. The strategy side of me says take the battle master fighter road, Control the battlefield and break the enemies ranks with superior wit. Status effects and combat advantages win battles what else do you need.

That's all you need to know about building an Aasimar for skills and stats purposes. Now for roleplaying purposes, you have some things to work out.  Now the basis of who you are as an aasimar would directly correlate with what subrace you choose. They often have suggested guidelines and alignments that go along with the race (Obviously you don't have to use them and can create and do whatever you want). However with this race, in particular, you have the fallen subrace. Which is to say for whatever reason you choose you have fallen from grace and are most often shunned by the rest of the celestial universe.  This includes an interesting mechanic in which if you choose you may search for atonement and you can switch between subraces at the DM's discretion.
The purpose of me bringing it up at all is that this is one of the few times that Roleplaying has a lasting physical impression on the character. Which to me is awesome! because whether the player is aware or wants to or not you can keep track of his actions and choose how it impacts his character. So if they go as far as to destroy a church or kill a cleric or an angel or even if they just consistently perform small evil actions, you could change them to fallen Aasimar and they would need to search for atonement to regain their status.
Also, every Aasimar gets an angelic guide, basically a stronger angel to watch over them and make sure they are a force for good and justice in the world. The DM takes place of the angelic guide that you may make with the DM to ensure consistency and awesomeness. The guide will help with any questions you might have and give directions, however, this very rarely. takes place verbally. Most often guidance comes in feelings and visions given in dreams to portray a message or a quest that would help destroy the forces of evil.
Speaking of evil, you are considered a celestial being which means..... Followers of evil will search for you to kill and or capture you whenever they discover what you are. That is why a large amount of  Aasimar take great steps to remain as low key and under the radar as possible.

Those are the guidelines in which to create an angelic adventurer I am going to start writing some sample backstories for the races I am featuring to give some additional help in what I mean by fleshing out characters and roleplaying capabilities. So maybe I'll start off with one of my friend's characters DonJuan to which I am writing their backstories as they woke up with amnesia trapped in a dungeon.
That all I have for tonight, my friends. Thank you so much for reading and as always keep it dicey
