Not a Lizard!

Dragonborns are an interesting folk. At some point in their past genealogy, there is dragon DNA. Read into that however you wish (I usually do). Naturally prideful and stubborn they also come in every color of the rainbow and breath multitudes of different very painful things from their mouth.
Which brings me to the confusing part about being a Dragonborn. You have to choose a color and whatever color you pick is your damage and resistance type. You can find a chart in the PHB (pg 34.) that has the correlating colors and element types. it's fairly self-explanatory red = fire, blue = lightning, White = ice, The other colors, however, get a little confusing and you can make up your own rules if you want but of course, they have every color already laid out for you.
So besides starting fights and breathing on people why should you play as these scaly creatures? Let's bring it on down to the swag

  • +2 Strength / +1 Charisma
  • Age: 15-80
  • Walking speed 30ft
  • Taller and heavier than your average human
  • Variant Rule: Claws, when attacking unarmed your sharp fang-like claws act as a weapon. Roll a d4 when making an unarmed attack
  • Available elements: Acid, Fire, Ice, Lightning

Breath Weapon: This varies depending on what color you choose but the basics of it are, As a bonus action, you attack with your breath ( either in a 30ft line or 15ft cone) and every enemy inside the blast must make a dexterity or constitution saving throw. Taking 2d6 damage upon failing and half that much upon a successful save.

Damage Resistance: Whatever element you choose you also gain resistance to that form of damage

And that's about it, which might not seem like a lot since I just covered some very in-depth more advanced playable characters. But in the effort of balance and fairness, they cant give them more abilities or else they'd be super OP as a race. gaining an attack that has magical effects from level one is a pretty big deal early on. not to mention that its 2d6 is a good chunk of damage and you can hit almost 6 enemies with it. So I find early on its a big deal but it doesn't scale with your level well making it weaker at higher levels. But the good part is that the later levels is when your damage resistance buff comes in stronger.
Other then that what you will have to keep in mind is that if you pick a Dragonborn then you my friend, are an oddity. dragonborns traditionally have their own society away from the rest of the world. They are prone to quick impulse decisions and actions, not always great for making friends.
So as you can imagine a lot of the country bumpkins that you come across will be amazed and bewildered at the sight of you. eventually, as your legend grows and posters of your fame spreads you will be easily recognizable and picked out of a crowd quickly.
This could also be a boon to you for Roleplaying purposes. You are an ambassador sent by the council to introduce the dragon kingdom onto the political map and establish trade routes and such. So every one of your actions represents not just yourself but also a nation.
I am trying to keep these a little bit shorter so people can actually read content as opposed to my ramblings. Hopefully, its enjoyed. As always thank you so much for reading and keep it dicey my friends.
